Hello! My name is Wayne and I am a certified Orton-Gillingham (OG) dyslexia tutor. This approach is phonics based and is the most effective way to help individuals who struggle with reading, writing, and spelling. I offer tutoring to students of all ages. Many of these individuals have learning challenges such as dyslexia, but the Orton-Gillingham method may be used with anyone seeking to enhance their literacy skills.
What is Dyslexia? Dyslexia is neurologically based and arises from distinct brain wiring. Those who experience dyslexia often excel in areas such as spatial reasoning and intuition, but have difficulties in processing word sounds and recognizing individual letters. This leads to problems in reading, spelling, writing, and comprehension. One of the many strengths of the OG method is that it provides dyslexic individuals with intensive, individualized instruction in phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and reading comprehension strategies.
The content of the Orton-Gillingham approach is derived from a body of knowledge and practice that has been validated over the past century. OG is informed by scientific evidence regarding how people learn to read and write, how having dyslexia makes acquiring literacy skills more challenging, and which practices work best in terms of teaching dyslexic individuals to read and write.

Lessons are structured according to your needs and pace
Everyone has unique needs, and students are taught in an explicit, straightforward manner. The lessons are cumulative and incremental, building on previous lessons and providing constant and consistent review.
The Multisensory Approach Benefits Everybody
The three major pathways to the brain - visual, auditory, and kinesthetic - are all of equal importance to the OG approach. This is crucial because students of all ages learn more when multiple pathways are employed. Thus, in Orton-Gillingham lessons, the limitations of a single pathway are not a concern, as all three pathways are used in each lesson.
Nothing is sustainable if it isn’t fun!
Because students require a lot of repetition in order to master the building blocks of language, the element of fun is an essential component of OG lessons. Through experience I have seen that most learning occurs when lesson are lively, activity-based, and ultimately, fun!
A Little About me!
In addition to being a certified Orton-Gillingham tutor and Dyslexia Coach, as an instructor/tutor with over 25 years experience teaching English as a Second Language both locally and abroad, I have a strong grasp of the grammatical and phonetic components of English that students often struggle with.
Personally, I find reading and writing to be among the most enjoyable activities in my life. And as such, it is very safisfying for me to help others on their journey towards mastering the various aspects of literacy.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, baking muffins, hanging out with my wife, daughter, and dog, and of course reading and writing!
